An Introduction to:

Loma Fowler
Dressage Trainer & Teacher

2008 Clinic Schedule

Loma is fully engaged in the sport of dressage through her commitment to several chosen roles. She is a trainer, an instructor, a competitor, an educator, and (foremost and always) a student of dressage.

She has a rare understanding of the interconnectedness of the elements of dressage. Loma brings her deep knowledge to every training and teaching session. She communicates her knowledge to students at all levels in a positive and enthusiastic teaching manner.

Loma's advanced dressage capabilities have been developed after training and living with two Master trainers in Europe for 4 years. Her higher-level training began when she was invited to be a long-term, resident student with Klaus Balkenhol, German Olympic Gold Medalist, German Team Coach and current U.S. Team Coach. As her knowledge and skills advanced she became Klaus’s “American Bereiter”. Loma's experience with Herr Balkenhol focused on classical dressage training. The training experience with Klaus covered the full range of performance horse development -- from essential fundamentals through Grand Prix techniques.

Loma continued her classical dressage training in Europe by studying with Ernst Hoyas for one year. Hoyas was a Senior Rider at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna for 29 years and now coaches top-ranked dressage riders. Loma's studies with Hoyas tapped into the vast knowledge and heritage of the Spanish Riding School.

During her studies in Europe Loma focused on observing and listening to these Master trainers throughout each day. She practiced her technique on horses at different levels with the direct coaching of the Master trainers. Loma absorbed extensive knowledge from the Masters, which she now applies in her training and teaching.

Loma has taught extensively at clinics, camps, and symposiums across the U.S.A. and in Europe. For several years Loma also taught the USDF instructor workshops in Lunging, Training, and Teaching as a member of the USDF’s Instructor Workshop Faculty. She continues to have a strong impact through teaching at clinics and coaching in the Junior\Young Rider program.
